10 Super Easy Ways To Repurpose Old Content

If you are like us, you spend a lot of time creating interesting, share worthy content. A LOT of time. At some point, those creative juices flowing through your brain dry up. Whether your content department is a team of 20 writers and editors or a team of just you, you have most likely hit this roadblock more than once.

You never want to produce stale, unoriginal content just for the sake of it. Anyone else out there tired of reading about the Apple Watch?

Instead of staring blankly at your computer screen for eight hours while trying to conjure up a mind-blowing piece of content, consider “recycling” existing content.

There are many benefits to putting a new spin on old content. Not only will it help you overcome writer’s block, but repurposing content can attract new audiences, give forgotten content a fresh coat of paint, and boost your site’s SEO.

Create, Recycle, Repeat

Here are 10 simple ways to repurpose evergreen content.

1) Infographics

Take an evergreen blog and turn it into an infographic. Infographics are great for sharing on social media. You don’t even need to use PhotoShop. Get on Canva, Piktochart, or Infogram to make a beautiful infographic in a jiffy.

2) Update An Old Blog

In the online world, nothing stays the same for long. Trends come and go faster than in the fashion world. Update an old blog post with more recent stats or current trends for a fresh perspective.

3) Write A New Article

Take an idea from an existing blog or article and write a new one. For example, you have a blog comparing two social media management platforms. Well, there are way more than two social media tools out there, so expand upon the original blog by adding more possibilities to the mix.

4) Publish Content On A New Platform

Think outside your own blog or website by publishing your content on another platform. LinkedIn offers its own publishing platform, and it is super simple to use, as is Quora. We also love the look of Medium. Just be sure to credit the original post. Publishing to platforms other than your own is an effortless way to gain new followers.

5) Make A Video

Some people prefer watching videos to reading articles, and that’s perfectly fine. Don’t ignore this audience! Include them in your content marketing strategy by making videos based on existing content. Creating a short how-to video can work wonders.

6) Repost Or Reshare Content

On social media, especially Twitter, posts get lost in mere seconds. It’s very easy to miss a post. Don’t be scared to repost the same content (but write a different message) again and again. Always tailor your message to each individual social media site and audience.

7) Host A Webinar or Podcast

Podcasts and webinars are yet two more outlets to reach new audiences. If you don’t personally feel comfortable taking on the role of voice actor, ask a colleague to step in or outsource voice talent. After, you can always take the video used for your podcast or webinar and upload it to YouTube. Keep repurposing!

8) Create A Presentation

Consider upcycling your content into an interactive presentation. And no, we don’t mean PowerPoint. Check out SlideShare and Haiku Deck for simple layouts, cool fonts and high-quality images. Visit here for a number of free presentation tools courtesy of Pitch Deck.

9) Compile An eBook Or Whitepaper

Have you written a series of blogs on the same topic? If so, whip those into an eBook, how-to guide or whitepaper that people can download from your website.

10) Send An Email Or Newsletter

Email marketing is still a powerful tool. Just think of how often you check your work and personal email accounts on a daily basis. When you spend all day reading and responding to emails at work, you may not have time to skim Facebook or Twitter, or visit blogs. Cater to this busy audience by sending them email updates or newsletters including relevant blogs, articles, offers, etc. Constant Contact or MailChimp are two of the more popular email marketing tools. Remember to not bombard people with emails, though. You want them to read the email, not delete it.

Breathing new life into your content will help you gain more value and a higher ROI for your marketing efforts. Don’t let good content go to waste and don’t burn yourself out trying to come up with new ideas. They are already there! Just think “outside the blog.”
