Every day thousands of business owners are getting taken advantage of. By whom, you ask? By FACEBOOK, THAT’S WHOM!
The tool that is helping to grow your business is, in fact, taking advantage of you without you even knowing it. And, it’s so easy for them to do. That boost button and those daily notifications make it so easy for Facebook to take your money.
So, why is it such a bad idea to use the Facebook Boost Button? Here are my reasons!
Do you notice when you don’t boost a post, it seems like no one sees your posts?
Well, I hate to break it to you, but they don’t!
Facebook’s business algorithm is built to eat up all your money. Every time you push the boost button, you’re giving into them. The algorithm makes you feel like you’re not getting any results unless you spend money on Facebook.
Unfortunately, they can do that because they are Facebook. Next time you want to boost a post, use the Ads Manager. Just be patient with it as it will take some time to regrow your organic reach, which is already an uphill battle. Think about running a giveaway or implementing new videos. Those type of strategies will help your organic reach grow much faster.
Here are a few other reasons the Facebook Boost Button isn't as good as it sounds.
Analytics is one of the most important parts of the promoted post. You want to make sure you see a great return on your money. The only analytics you will see with the boost button are reach, engagement, and clicks, if applicable.
When using the Ads Manager, you can see the demographics of the people who are interacting with your ad was well as click-through rates, video views based on time, frequency, and so much more. You can get a much better understanding of what is working and what needs to be changed. That way, you’re not throwing your money away.
I like to describe a poorly targeted ad as casting a little net in the middle of the sea. More than likely, you’re not going to catch a single fish. But if you cast that same net in a pond where you know the fish will enjoy the bait, it’s a perfectly targeted ad.
The other awesome part? You can target people who have viewed your products or services and didn’t check out. Amazon and many Chinese retailers are outstanding at retargeting and make you take another look at that product.
Facebook also rolled out lookalike audiences, which allows Facebook to match your current customer list and find profiles who would also like your products. It's an awesome tool to help you make more money and grow your business.
In the grand scheme of things, you’re competing with big brands for consumers’ attention. How awesome is it now that you can compete with big brands on a global level?
Facebook lets you do that. Selecting a blog post that you hope will grab more attention isn’t competing.
The boost button doesn’t let you use different image sizes or creative, eye-catching headlines. In the Ads Manager, you can pick what platforms you want your ad to show on.

You can have anywhere from an Instagram Stories video ad to a Facebook Messenger ad. The creatively is endless.
