Have you ever woken up in the morning started to get ready for the day and thought to yourself, “UGH! I have nothing to wear,” even though you have a closet full of clothes?
While I don’t care that much about clothes, I do care about fonts. And I, along with every other designer, experience the same feeling when we sit down to design a new piece. We think to ourselves, “UGH! I don’t have any good typefaces for this piece?”
Buying and downloading new fonts is like a drug for me; you can never have too many. But your wallet may disagree. With some fonts costing $500+, you can’t exactly retail therapy your way through the work week. And that’s where cheap and easy fonts that don’t look cheap and easy come in play. Here are my top five font choices under $20. Enjoy!
Sea Salt - $18
Sea Salt is my FAVORITE script font right now. I love it! It’s easy to read, super trendy, and BONUS, only cost $18 on Creative Market. Plus it looks great paired with a clean round san serif font like Open Sans or Avenir.

Oregon - $12
It’s thick, clean and just a little bit rounded. It is an all-caps font, so it should only be used for display. But it can be paired perfectly with an easy-to-read serif font. Give it a whirl; you won’t be disappointed.

Monopoly - $15
I heart simple, clean, round san serif fonts, so obviously this font won me over pretty quickly. It comes in three different weights. It looks fabulous in all caps, initial caps or all lowercase. Plus, the ampersand is BEAUTIFUL. Enough said.

Bonfire - $15
Bonfire is super playful, a little bit distressed and really bold — just like I like ‘em. Bonfire comes with two different styles: rough and regular, in addition to a bonus pack of icon extras. This typeface may not be perfect for every piece, but for some pieces, it’s ideal.

Quincy - $19
I had to make sure we included a serif font in the mix! This serif font is super pretty, could be used for a display font or a body copy font and comes with two different weights and four styles. I just love the tail on the Q and again, the ampersand is gorg.
